Break at 5:30am

I am so glad I found out that the Olympus Masters are practicing at Granite.  It is a lot of fun and so much easier to get up for when you don't have to work afterwards.  Too bad the guy I was swimming with wasn't very pleasant.  But the coach is nice and he was talking about trying to host a master's swim meet!

Workout:

Warm-up:
200 free
200 choice

1st set:
8x200's free (negative split and second four faster pace) @3:00

2nd set:
9x100's IM @1:40 (the time was supposed to go down by five each round of three, but we did not do that)

Cool-down:
200 choice

Total yards:  3,100 yards

Now for the rest of the day.
Matt sanded the back room and mudded the closet.  He is designing a built in corner cabinet this evening.  We are planning to do corner shelves above it.  It will look really amazing with the waines coting (not sure on the spelling).  I will try to get a picture of the room in progress.

I found this really cool cube in my toy box (which will be repainted to fit the baby room decor).  It flips open to show different faces.  I want to add some pictures and am trying to decide what to do.  I thought about animals but I am already planning a floor quilt with that in mind.  I might go with a combination of numbers, shapes, and colors.

That is all for now.

Swimming--even on Christmas Break!

I got up to swim this morning.  Practice was at 5:45 am.  Not too early since I am used to getting up for practice at Kearns.  I swam with the Olympus Masters.  They were nice.  There were only about 7 swimmers there. The coach had his beautiful German Shepherd on deck.  He was gorgeous!  And very well behaved.

The workout went as follows:

Warm-up:
200 free
200 choice

2nd set:
6x100's @ 10 sec. rest (body rotation drills)

Main set:
~40x50's  the interval dropped 1 second per fifty.  I got to the 34th and stayed on the time.  I probably could have done more.  Not too shabby for an old, pregnant lady!

Cool-down:
100 choice

3,000 yds. total

I really enjoyed working out at the Granite High pool.  It is such a classic pool and the locker rooms are big.  Unfortunately the showers were freezing!  But then I conserve water and take a very short shower.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and merry Christmas!

Just about to quilt

I finally pinned the top of that quilt together.  I have not really found the time for any good crafting or sewing.  I guess I was a little to lazy (or sometimes busy).  I made a really awesome changing pad with my friend!  We had so much fun doing it.  I hope to get to sew with her again soon.

No pictures today.  I need to find a new place to do my sewing.  Matt is in there right now mudding and the room is no longer mine to use.  I will have a better use soon.

Updates from the past.

I have been lackadaisical (that would be a 4th grade vocabulary word!) with my blog writing.  Last Friday I completed another fabulous, Four Thousand Friday!  It sure is a lot of work, but definitely worth it!  Thanks, Becky, for yet another workout that inspired me.  I swam two 1000 yard freestyles (one swim and one pull).  The first I went about a 12:35 and the second 12:02.  And, Chris was only a 25 ahead of me!  Very excellent!  If I was a TMN Turtle, I would say, "Totally Rad, Dud!"

Here is an awesome photo from the Salt Lake Marathon Bike Tour I was invited too.  My friend Melody was sweet enough to invite me on the 25 mile ride and I had a blast!  I sure hope I can get inspired to do a few more.  I like the uphills and want to focus on the closest and most beautiful canyon in the area, Millcreek!

We went down to Ephraim to visit the family for Mothers' Day.  The park down there is a blast!  It is a very good combination of plastic and metal parts.  They even have a dinosaur fossil!

We have only a week and a half of school left in this year.  It has gone so fast!  I am loving teaching 4th grade.  It definitely fits me better than 5th.  I love the curriculum, it is extremely interesting to me.  I will miss my current students.

I have most of the junior quilt top done.  I just need to add the border for the top to be finished.  Then comes the back and the binding.  Some lucky friend(s) will receive this fabulous gift (hopefully before summer is too hot!)

Four Thousand Friday!

Today's post will be all about Four Thousand Friday.  I think it should be called Minimal Rest Friday, but I didn't name it.  Although, I did name Fun Friday.  It is quite a challenge to swim 4,000 yards in one hour.  So it was a good thing I was on time this morning.  Here is the workout curtsy of my best friend and coach, Becky.

1x400 warm up
6x250's freestyle pull @3:10 (I only got ~5 sec. rest!)
10x100's alternating free and IM by 100 @1:30 (only ~5-9 sec. rest, again)
10x50's kick/swim by 25@:45 (this time I was down to ~1-(-1) sec. rest)
1x600 freestyle--start fast end with cool down

It was a very good workout, but it was very hard.  We really swam almost non-stop.

Thanks Becky for another excellent workout!

More April Fun

I have been up to a few things this April.  My friend Melody invited me on the Bike Tour of the SLC Marathon.  We had a blast!  It was a 25 mile ride of fun.  It inspired me to ride more.  So the next day I rode from home to the Millcreek pay station.  It is a straight (well, almost) uphill ride.  It was so hard, but very full-filling.  I have a picture of it here.

The other great accomplishment was finishing the front table runner.  I really like the springy look.  Light and cheery.

The other wonderful addition to our home has been our new back porch.  Our contractor said we would get the new cement in about a month.  But our lucky day!  He called and they started work on it on Friday.  So today the last of the work was done, sealing.  This is the most horrible smell I have ever smelled.  I can taste it on my tongue.

We are going to clean up the back corner and landscape it.  That will be my summer project this year.  I am excited to eat breakfast and drink my coffee in my fancy new patio furniture, on my beautiful new cement patio all summer long!  That will be living the life of luxury.

Spring Break Initiation

NEW BLOG!
I wanted a more general blog. My other one is a bit to specific. So on this new one, I will be posting all kinds of things. Such as, swim workouts, projects, and just general posts. I think it will be better.

For this first post, I have two project I have done (one just needs its binding). And one that Matt is working on, and that I helped install.

This is the Dinosaur Coffee (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah). That is right, I put dinosaur buttons on my coffee press cover. (See image on left). It has been almost done for a while but I finally put the buttons on yesterday!

On the right, you will see my spring table runner for the entertainment stand underneath our TV. I just have to finish the binding which I will get done today. I have enough fabric to make a youth quilt. I want to work on that next.

This beautiful cabinet is in our kitchen nook. Matt has been working on it for several months. As of yesterday, he had installed to bottom cabinet too, but I don't have a photo of that yet. I can attest that it is made out of solid wood! I know because I helped install them and they are HEAVY! I cannot wait for them to be done. They are gorgeous! And he got the lights connected last night, just beautiful!

I think this is enough for the first blog post. Hopefully I will be more diligent with my posting. Have a fabulous day!
